Simple and Tasty Moussaka 

Try your hand at this simple and tasty moussaka recipe - made even easier by our perfectly blended Moussaka Spice Mix and delicious Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Enjoy!

Ingredients (per person):


Method:

Heat oven to 220C/200C fan/gas 7. 
 Boil the potatoes until tender (approximately 20 mins). Drain and cool.
Heat Extra Virgin Olive Oil in a pan. Add the onion and cook until softened.
Add the mince lamb or beef and turn occasionally for about 5 minutes until it starts to char. 
Add the garlic and the Minoan Taste Moussaka Spice Mix and stir.
Stir in the passata. 
Bring the mix to a simmer, season to taste with salt and pepper and then take it off the heat. 
Heat a griddle pan and brush a little Extra Virgin Olive Oil over the aubergines and grill for 2-3 mins each side or until char lines appear. Tip: Doing this in smaller batches is a good way to avoid burning.
Once cooled, cut the boiled potatoes into thick slices. 
Put 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the base of a deep ovenproof dish. 
Create a layer of potatoes and then a layer of aubergines. 
Sprinkle a pinch of the Minoan Taste Moussaka Spice Mix and some salt and pepper over the aubergines. Then layer over some cooked mince. 
Repeat this layering process until all ingredients are used up and make sure you finish on a layer of the griddled aubergine. 
Spread the crème fraiche over the top and scatter with cheese. Put in the oven for 10 minutes or until the cheese is golden and bubbling.
Serve with Greek Salad and enjoy!
